Bavarian town in USA

Two years have passed since we moved to Washington State from Chicago. We drove 500 miles across the state with most of our belongings packed in the back of our car. It was right in the middle of pandemic. No vaccines in sight yet. Demonstrations on the streets. It was a tense period. We did not know anyone in Seattle. Let's say it was a though period. But we found ourselves back in Leavenworth multiple times. We romanticize Leavenworth so much that we almost bought our first house in the woods.

Slowly, we rose from our ashes and started looking into fun things to do around Seattle. "Leavenworth" came up in conversations with our new friends and on social media. Is it a Bavarian town? Why in the US? What is the history? Why the name? We've had many questions and had to answer those for ourselves by paying a visit to this quirky town.

On our first trip, we booked a wagon/tiny house with an outhouse and outdoor shower (which was an interesting experiment to say the least). We made multiple trips to Leavenworth since then. We stayed at different places and tried out many restaurants. Every season is beautiful. We find ourselves coming back to Leavenworth all the time.

Let's break down Leavenworth for you so you can preplan your trip and don't miss out on fun things.

Some activities you can do in Leavenworth:

- Lazy river floating: grab your beer and flow down the river!

- Hike Colchuck Lake: one of the most beautiful hikes in WA state. Arrive there early, parking gets packed pretty soon. Other trails you can do:

- Icicle ridge trail

- Tumwater trail (fall leave peeping)

- Blackbird Island

- Snow Lake

- Leaf peeping in fall

- Cross-country skiing in winter

- Walk on the main street

Restaurants we love in Leavenworth:

- Munchen Haus: German hot dogs!

- Blewett Brewery

- Sulla Vitta (Italian)

- Tumwater Bakery

Coffee:

- 97 Rock House (we regularly get our coffee beans from here. Its backyard is amazing. )

- J5 Coffee

Accommodations: (you can't go wrong with any of those. Love both of them)

- Abendblume

- Cashmere Mountain Bed & Breakfast

Some tips on booking your trip to Leavenworth:

- Book in advance! Like at least three months out.

- If you can, go on weekdays. Try to avoid weekends.

- Check out festival days in town. Those dates might get extra crowded.
