If your English is at intermediate level or higher, and you want to improve your English skills, then I suggest applying the following five habits into your daily schedule. I find watching a TV show in English is rather distracting as various things (watch, listen, etc.) happen at the same time.
1. Listen to a Podcast: I believe listening to a podcast is a better way to improve your English than watching a TV show, because you only focus on listening. Here are some podcasts I enjoy listening to:
Modern Love, Revisionist History, 99% Invisible
2. Read a book: You can choose your own pace while reading a book. Also, you can easily check out the meaning of some unknown words to you. Some books I enjoyed that might help improve your English:
Born A Crime, Educated, The Great Believers, A Gentleman in Moscow, Bad Blood: Secrets and Lies in a Silicon Valley Startup
Note that you can also try out audibooks.
3. Speak with a native English speaker on a regular basis: If you do not have a friend whom you can talk to in English on a regular basis, you can check out platforms like Cambly that would connect you with a native English speaker.
4. Watch free Youtube videos: There's great content on English learning on Youtube. Two channels that I enjoy are:
Speak English with Tiffani, and Rachel's English
Especially, if you'd like to improve your accent, then go to Rachel's English
5. Read newspaper or magazines: I really like NewYork Times, it is a well-written paper. For some time, I subscribed to Economist and enjoyed the level of sophistication there.
Let me know what habits you integrate into your daily life to improve your English.
Best,
Gokce
